Romsey Food Festival
Last Sunday, Romsey held its annual Food Festival. It was a fairly low-key affair – a collection of stalls in the town’s Cornmarket – but very friendly and enjoyable. One visitor was Boris the duck, brought along by his owner Wayne O’Donnell; they made national headlines earlier this year. The festival and good weather helped stallholders at the monthly Farmers’ Market, held the same day just outside the town centre, to do a brisk trade.
Both events hint at an alternative vision of how retailing in the town could be regenerated as opposed to the construction of a large Tesco on the bypass. Time will tell which one will prevail.
