To Vienna and beyond

The annual New Year’s Concert from Vienna provided as much of a sensual aural and visual feast as ever. Georges Pretre looked like he was enjoying every minute of him; it’s certainly no mean feat for an 85-year old to conduct a two-hour long concert from memory. The voyage in images from places along the Danube – 2840 km from source to delta – made an interesting counterpoint to the eponymous waltz encore: a pleasant start to the new Decade.
