Wimpole Hall Estate
As a counterpoint to the bustle of Cambridge, a visit to Wimpole Hall provides a vision of a different side of England, as my wife and I discovered earlier this month
One of the larger National Trust properties, it comprises a stately home begun in the Seventeenth Century, very extensive grounds and a working farm that is open to visitors. Watching the pigs being fed was quite comical, whilst cows chewing the cud in the yard looked like something out of Cold Comfort Farm. It is well worth a visit, whatever the weather (we visited the farm on a Saturday afternoon in hazy sunshine and returned a couple of days later in heavy rain to see the house!).
