Garway Moon Inn

Travel / 1 Comment / August 6, 2012

Off the beaten track for many tourists, Herefordshire is well worth a visit if you are looking to get away from it all for a few days. My wife and I did so recently, staying at the Garway Moon Inn, established in about 1750, just a mile or so away from the Welsh border to the north of Monmouth. We thoroughly recommend it.

Since taking over in 2007, owners Scott and Christy have built a thriving business by attracting bed and breakfast guests through laterooms.com, whilst building a local following for their food, expertly prepared from local produce by head chef Casey Marsh, who blogs at garwaymoonkitchen.wordpress.com. Our ample cooked breakfasts –mine featured duck eggs – made us wish that we had been around more to sample it.

We stayed in the smallest of the three rooms offered to paying guests. Even so, it was very comfortable and furnished very tastefully.  The en-suite bathroom was also spotlessly clean; complimentary toiletries and fluffy white towels completed the aspirational look. The inn has yet to be rated by the AA but ought to score well.

Despite its rural location, there are many places to see nearby. Hereford , a compact and obviously well-to-do cathedral city just a few miles to the north, was our destination for a Three Choirs Festival concert. We also visited Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye, as well as beauty spots Symond’s Yat and Tintern Abbey.

About the only drawback to a stay in such a rural setting was the patchy mobile phone signal reception. Mind you, if you really are looking to get away from it all, perhaps this isn’t such a disadvantage after all…

The place is just so fresh looking and clean. Thanks for the photos. Looks very peaceful and calm here. I am wondering how many beautiful places UK have? A friend of mine showed me pictures from UK. He and his family just had an exclusive holiday to Malta. I know UK is very big but I am looking for an affordable accommodation. This one is perfect. Have a nice day!
