Review of St Benet’s Abbey hotel in Cornwall

Travel / No Comment / August 7, 2013

My wife and I recently enjoyed a short break in Cornwall. St. Benet’s Abbey, near Bodmin, was an ideal base for exploration, being just half a mile away from the A30, the spine of the county.

We booked through LateRooms and booking arrangements were faultless. On the day, we left a phone message to say that we’d be an hour later in checking in than originally estimated; the owners were fine about it and very welcoming when we arrived.

Unsurprisingly for a building dating from 1411, our room wasn’t huge, but the bed was comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. The full English Breakfast – always a treat on stays away – was generous and very well cooked.

My only criticism is that the interior was rather gloomy; it would certainly benefit from redecoration to banish the dated wallpaper and swirly carpets. Nevertheless, we thought it offered very good value and would recommend it.
